Seatbelts Ruling on 2009

This year all passengers in the car whether in the front or back have to buckle up. Failure to do so and the driver will face RM300 fine. Although this applies for passengers over 17 years old, the drivers should ensure the safety of the minors by making sure they buckled up.

This new seatbelt ruling includes the rear seatbelts, but excludes the following:

  • Cars registered before 1st of January 1995
  • Cars registered after the 1st of January 1995 but not equipped with rear seatbelt anchorage points
  • Commercial vehicles such as taxis and rental cars
  • Vehicles with more than 9 seats including the driver’s
  • Transport vehicles with capacity above 3.5 tonnes
(informations taken from paultan's blog)

The bad news is, the RM300 fine will be in effect for a period of 6 months, starting from 1st of January 2009 till the end of June 2009. From 1st of July 2009, the fine will be increased to a whopping RM2000 or even go to Jail for up to 1 year. Now that's serious!

Hope you guys understand why the government implemented this new ruling. It is for your own safety. So please abide to the law or else you will have to pay fine for avoidable/careless mistakes. You won't want that don't you ?

I'm sure all of you were able to accept this as a positive good start of our government to show that they too concern about us 'Rakyats'.
