Why is the Owl considered wise?

What's on your mind when it comes to OWL?
*wise, smart, intelligent... ? lol.

Well, the owl is actually NOT a wise animal. For its size, the owl has a quite small brain. Besides, owl are not as smart as geese, crows, and other living animals.

We all know that in ancient times, people have used the owl as a symbol of wisdom. It is said that the serious look in it's face might have given people the thoughts that the owl was a wise animal. Owls has large, bright, wide-open eyes that points forward. Its long lashes and eyelids close over its eyes. However, the owl could not move its eyes from side to side, but because they do point forward, they can change focus very quickly from near to far objects. The owl's eyes can focus on objects instantly. This is an adaptation for which it helps the owl in its hunting activities. But it certainly has nothing to do with wisdom, I supposed.

Although the owl cannot move its eyes, but it can turn its entire head completely around and look behind it without moving any other part of its body! can you believe that?

P/S : So, shall we still take owls as a symbol of wisdom? =P

Infos taken from BigAmazingFacts.(hey, i'm not that smart ok)
